Spring reminds us that new beginnings are possible, even after the hardest seasons. As the days become lighter, I want to encourage every officer and member of staff to take small moments to focus on your own wellbeing. Whether it’s rest, reflection, or reaching out for support, investing in yourself is not a luxury, it’s essential

While many enjoy time with family and friends, officers across the UK will be standing strong as part of the thin blue line, keeping communities safe. Their professionalism, resilience, and dedication deserve recognition and thanks every single day

As we pause for reflection this Easter, our thoughts are with the brave officers who are no longer with us, colleagues who gave everything in the line of duty. Their courage, sacrifice, and commitment to protecting others will never be forgotten. We hold their families, friends, and forces in our hearts, today and always

This year’s Easter message includes a heartfelt statement from the Trustees, reflecting the spirit of renewal associated with the season...

          “

As we welcome the season of renewal, we want every serving and retired officer to know how deeply we value your courage, compassion, and unwavering service to our communities. Easter reminds us that every new season brings fresh hope; as you continue to support others, we hope you also find time to pause, breathe, and care for your own wellbeing. You deserve that space, and we’re here to support you every step of the way

Whether someone is looking for someone to talk to, guidance on where to find help, or tools to look after their mental health, we want every officer to know in the UK to know they are not alone. We are here to help, not only just at Easter but throughout the year

Founded in 1986, No1 CopperPot began when a small group of Greater Manchester Police officers came together with a clear purpose: to look after their own. At a time when strict rules around personal debt meant some officers were at risk of losing their homes, and even their jobs, the group pooled their savings to offer affordable personal loans. This simple but powerful idea grew into the GMP Credit Union.

Over time, the vision expanded. A merger with CopperPot Credit Union from Leicestershire Police united two like‑minded organisations, resulting in the formation of No1 CopperPot Credit Union as it is known today. The organisation now supports more than 50,000 members across all UK police forces, making it the largest police credit union in the country.

Despite its growth, No1 CopperPot remains rooted in the principle it was founded on: people helping people. With no shareholders, all profits are returned to members each year. The credit union continues to support the police family with savings, loans, mortgages direct from payroll, and financial education designed to make life a little easier for those who serve.

Support like this enables us to help a growing number of police officers who are reaching out for assistance with their mental wellbeing, which can so often have an adverse physiological impact on their physical health too. I also want to say how wonderful the Museum of Policing in Cheshire was during our visit, it was incredibly informative, beautifully presented, and a real credit to the volunteers who run it. I would wholeheartedly recommend that anyone who can should take the time to visit. We are deeply grateful for this donation and the tangible difference it will make to the policing community we serve

has received a generous £200 donation made in memory of former North Yorkshire Police officer Gilbert Turnbull, following his recent passing and funeral.

Gilbert served with North Yorkshire Police for three decades and remained deeply connected to the policing community long after his retirement 35 years ago. His family fondly recalled how he stayed active through his local NARPO branch, part of the National Association of Retired Police Officers, which plays a crucial role in supporting former officers and staff across the UK.

Iain, Gilbert’s son, said his father’s policing spirit never faded “

Even though he’d been retired for 35 years, Dad was always a policeman at heart. He kept in touch with the job through his local NARPO branch and through family still serving. It was my sister, Catherine, who suggested supporting

The National Association of Retired Police Officers (NARPO) is crucial for retired police officers and staff in the UK, acting as a dedicated, rank-free, and influential advocate for their rights, welfare, and pensions. With over 93,000 members, NARPO helps bridge the gap between a high‑paced policing career and a secure, active retirement. This commitment to care, compassion, and ongoing connection reflects the wider closeness of the policing family, the thin blue line that endures far beyond active service.

is honoured to pay tribute to the outstanding women serving within the policing family as the charity joins global celebrations for International Women’s Day (IWD), now in its 115th year.

This year’s International Women’s Day campaign theme, “Give to Gain”, encourages individuals and organisations to contribute to women’s advancement through donations, knowledge sharing, mentoring, education, advocacy, resources or time. The theme aims to inspire a more supportive and interconnected world where women’s achievements and progress are championed.

to support women in policing. The event brought together remarkable women from across the emergency services for a full day of connection, inspiration, and empowerment.

The programme featured keynote speakers, interactive sessions, prizes, shared meals and opportunities for collaboration. Attendees described the atmosphere as warm, uplifting and deeply supportive, with a strong sense of unity across the blue light community.

On the event closing, Andrea delivered a powerful message encouraging women in policing to embrace authenticity and self-belief. Her remarks emphasise that perfection is not a requirement for success... “

We know that this message will resonate widely with members of our blue light family, as it reinforces the spirit of feminism and supports the continued empowerment and commitment to women in policing and across the wider emergency services community.

Year‑Long Fundraiser Grows as Officer Commits By Expanding The Distance to 2,026 Miles in Support of Thin Blue Line UK

A West Yorkshire Police officer has committed by now running 2026 miles in 2026 to raise money for Thin Blue Line UK, increasing the distance by 1034km.

From Ambitious to Extraordinary: Joe Extends Running Goal to 2,026 Miles

With just one week to go before he takes part in the Heaton Park 10k, West Yorkshire Police officer Joe has announced a major expansion to his fundraising mission for

           Thin Blue Line UK

          .

Originally planning to cover 2,225 kilometres in 2026, Joe has now committed to completing an extraordinary 2,026 miles (3,259 km) over the year. This is an increase of an incredible 1,034 km on his initial goal!

Joe says the challenge is driven by the emotional toll policing can take and the heartbreak of losing colleagues. After beginning 2025 with a personal aim to improve his physical and mental wellbeing, he has since transformed his fitness, losing four stone and pushing himself further than he ever expected. His determination to support fellow officers is what he says keeps him moving.

Speaking about why he is taking on such an intense year‑long effort, Joe said... "

The reality is there has been far too much unnecessary death lately. The environment we work in is constantly stressful, and the emotional toll is massive. Losing colleagues, seeing families left without answers and children left behind, is something you never get used to. We need to talk more openly and look out for each other.

I’ll be honest, I’m not a runner. I started 2025 just trying to get fitter and keep my head clear, and somehow I’ve pushed myself further than I ever thought I could. But I know that if I only do this for myself, I’ll quit. If people donate, then I have to keep going.

This challenge scares me, I expect to get injured or hit the wall along the way. But every mile is for

          ”.

According to Joe, every mile of his 2,026 mile challenge is dedicated to:

️ Those we’ve lost too soon.

Whether he runs, walks, or crawls, Joe is committed to completing every mile to support

Thin Blue Line UK Partners with Former Police Officer Liam to Highlight Critical Need for Welfare Reform To Enable Better Mental Health Support To Be Made Available

           Thin Blue Line UK

has recently announced the release of a powerful and deeply personal poem written by Liam, a former police officer who previously served in Devon and Cornwall Police, following nearly 14 years of military service in the British Army. After stepping away from policing and finding renewed happiness elsewhere, Liam has chosen to use his voice and lived experience to shed light on the urgent welfare challenges faced by those still serving on the frontline.

The poem, which took Liam a year to complete, reflects the emotional and physical toll experienced by officers across the country. Drawing on quiet reflection, first-hand observation, and the shared struggles of colleagues, Liam’s work gives a candid account of the pressures faced by modern policing, from chronic understaffing and excessive workloads to the slow erosion of vital welfare and organisational support.

Despite its honesty, the poem does not dwell in bitterness. Instead, it is a heartfelt call for reform and a reminder of the profession’s enduring value. Liam emphasises that policing remains “one of the best jobs in the world,” even as the system often leaves its officers feeling unsupported, exhausted, or unheard. His message captures both the pride of service and the emotional weight carried by those who dedicate their lives to protecting others.

His honesty and courage will undoubtedly help others feel understood and less alone.”

, a charity supporting the mental health and wellbeing of police officers across the country.

Joe, who currently serves with West Yorkshire Police, has set himself the ambitious target of completing 2,226 km in a single year — the equivalent of running from Leeds to North Africa. The challenge works out at roughly 6 km every day, though Joe has also scheduled a demanding calendar of official events to give himself flexibility for illness, injuries, and unavoidable rest days. His plan includes multiple 10Ks, half marathons, four full marathons, and training towards his first ultra‑marathon.

          Joe says, “

The reality is I don’t know how to write this without it sounding dramatic, so I’ll just say it. There has been too much unnecessary death lately. The environment we work in is constantly stressful, and the emotional toll is massive. We are in a constant state of pressure, and recently we have been struck by tragedy too often. The helplessness and anger that comes with losing colleagues is profound. Seeing the families left without answers and the children left behind is something you don't get used to. We need to talk more openly. We need to look out for each other

          ”.

Remarkably, Joe admits he doesn’t even enjoy running. In early 2025, he simply set out to look after his own wellbeing and lose weight. Since then, he has shed four stone, discovered a new level of resilience, and found motivation in a sense of purpose rather than personal achievement. Joe has explained that running for a cause — rather than just for himself — is what will keep him going when the challenge becomes overwhelming. “

If I run for myself, I might quit

          ”, he explains. “

But if I run for my colleagues, for this charity, and for everyone supporting me — I won’t

          ”.

Every kilometre Joe completes in 2026 will raise funds for

, helping the organisation continue its work supporting officers struggling with trauma, stress, and the cumulative impact of policing. The charity says Joe’s challenge highlights the growing need to prioritise mental wellbeing within the police service, especially as demand increases and pressures on frontline staff continue to mount.

Joe acknowledges the year‑long challenge will be far from easy and expects setbacks along the way, but he remains committed to completing the full distance. “Whether I run, walk, or crawl — I’m seeing this through,” Joe says.

Police Officers Are Increasingly Turning to Thin Blue Line UK In What The Charity Believes To Be Record Numbers as Mental Health Crisis Deepens In UK Policing

Over the past month, and as we have moved through the first weeks of 2026,

           Thin Blue Line UK

has been contacted almost every single day by police officers from across the country seeking help, guidance, and emotional support. Some officers have reached out following the devastating loss of a colleague to suicide, whilst others have told us that they are struggling under the relentless strain the job continually places on them. As a charity dedicated to supporting police wellbeing, we are always here for every officer. However, this sudden rise in calls for help is a sign that something deeper, and far more urgent is happening across UK policing.

Wellbeing Must Be at the Heart of Reform

This week marks a significant moment for policing reform nationally. Conversation is once again centred on performance, leadership and collaboration. Of course, these topics matter, but reform cannot succeed without strong foundations—looking after the officers and staff who protect and support our communities every day.

Police wellbeing is not optional. It is essential.

Our Trustee, Bev Adamson, reflected on the current situation... “

We are reassured by the fact that officers feel able to seek help, but we cannot ignore that this points to a wider and more urgent problem. As the country prepares for a major week of policing reform, the focus is largely on performance and collaboration, but for us real reform must start at the foundations. Police wellbeing is not optional... it is essential

          ”.

The rising number of officers contacting the charity echoes what many across policing are feeling today.

One serving officer, who wished to remain anonymous, shared a heartbreaking account with us this past week “

I lost a close colleague to suicide this last week. It really is becoming too common, and I know of four other colleagues who have taken their own lives in the last 12 months. For me it is becoming too common. I feel angry, helpless, and know things must change… how can an industry allow this to happen to the people who are supposed to keep us all safe

          ”?

This officer’s words reflect a growing frustration and heartbreak felt across policing, underscoring the urgent need for change.

Back in September 2025, our Trustee Andrea publicly asked senior leaders and politicians a difficult but necessary question:

“Is it time to call the mental health crisis in policing… a Critical Incident?”

Tragically, since that moment, and across many previous years, very little has changed.

And more officers have been lost.

Recent figures highlight the scale of the wellbeing crisis:

          •	360 officers have died by suicide since 2011 — though the true figure is likely higher.

          •	1 in 5 officers show symptoms of PTSD.

          •	17,700 officers were signed off for mental health reasons in 2024–25, a 22% increase in just one year.

          •	45% report frequent burnout, and 55% report persistent physical fatigue.

          •	Mental health issues are a factor in 75% of officers considering leaving the job.

          •	93% say their mental health has worsened because of policing.

These are not just statistics ... They are warnings ... They are lives ... And their voices and those around them must be heard.

          On Friday 9th January 2026,

           Thin Blue Line UK

proudly attended the National Safer Town Conference, held at the iconic Royal Liver Building in Liverpool, following an invitation from Merseyside Police. This prestigious event brought together senior policing leaders from across the country, alongside representatives from the Home Office, HMICFRS and Police and Crime Commissioners, to discuss strategies aimed at improving the safety and resilience of town centres nationwide.

The conference hosted by the incredible Lucy Meacock, formerly of Granda News; served as a vital forum for exploring how policing can adapt to meet the challenges of modern town centre environments, with discussions focused on operational strategies to reduce crime, enhance public confidence, and create safer spaces for communities. However,

            Thin Blue Line UK

used this opportunity to champion an equally critical issue: the mental health and wellbeing of police officers.

Police officers face unique pressures in their roles, often working in high-stress environments and dealing with traumatic incidents. These challenges can take a significant toll on their mental health, and without adequate support, the impact can be long-lasting. During the conference,

engaged with senior leaders to highlight the importance of prioritising officer wellbeing alongside operational effectiveness. The charity emphasised that supporting officers is not only vital for their personal health but also for maintaining a strong, resilient policing workforce capable of delivering the best service to the public.

featured in a full-page spread within the official conference brochure, showcasing the range of services and assistance available to officers. From confidential support to practical resources, the charity’s work is designed to ensure that those who protect our communities have access to the help they need. Attendees also left with one of the charity’s popular branded pens, which proved to be a hit and will serve as a lasting reminder of the invaluable support

charity expressed its gratitude to Merseyside Police for the opportunity to participate in such an influential forum: "

We are committed to supporting officers across the UK, and this conference allowed us to share our message with key decision-makers. By working together, we can ensure safer communities and healthier, supported officers. We are incredibly grateful to Merseyside Police for allowing us to be part of such important conversations

           ".

The charity believes that events like the Safer Town Conference are essential for fostering collaboration between policing bodies, government agencies, and support organisations. By combining efforts, the policing family can not only improve public safety but also create a culture where officer wellbeing is seen as a priority too, enabling a sustainable policing response.

looks forward to continuing its collaboration with policing partners and stakeholders to promote both community safety and officer mental health. The charity remains dedicated to ensuring that every officer knows they are not alone and that help is always available.

Tonight, while many of us gather with family and friends to celebrate, thousands of police officers and staff will be on duty across our cities and towns to keep us all safe. They will work tirelessly to protect large crowds, ensuring that communities can enjoy the festivities. For this, we say a heartfelt thank you. Your dedication, together often with your courage and bravery, allow us all to be able to celebrate in peace.

Looking back over 2025, we know that policing today is growing ever more complex. Officers are called to an increasingly wide range of incidents, often stepping into situations that are unpredictable, dangerous, and traumatic. Every decision an officer makes can be easily scrutinised, particularly by those who view events retrospectively, often through a critical lens online and across social media. The job is becoming heavier, the responsibility greater, and the margin for error smaller. These pressures understandably can take a greater toll on the mental health of our police officers, who ultimately just want to provide the best service they can to the public.

Yet, despite these growing strains, officers still show up every single day, protecting the ever-shrinking thin blue line and looking after the public. They put on their uniform, walk into chaotic scenes, and carry the growing weight of responsibility without fear or favour… because they care deeply about their communities.

Please remember, as we do, that behind every uniform is a human being, someone who feels, sacrifices, and will sometimes need that little extra bit of support.

That is exactly why

The trustees of Thin Blue Line UK would like to express their deepest and most heartfelt thanks to the family, friends, and colleagues of Sergeant Trev Pearton for raising an incredible £3,542 in his memory and generously donating the amount to the charity.

Trev passed away suddenly in August 2025. He had served as a police officer with Devon and Cornwall Police and is deeply missed by officers and staff across the force. The family initially set a target of £500 but were overwhelmed by the generosity of those who donated, including a local primary school that carried out a number of fundraising activities to help raise funds.

We know that the amount raised is a powerful testament to how loved Trev was by all who knew him. We are always touched when people make the decision to raise money for our charity. We are incredibly grateful to Trev's family, friends, and colleagues for raising such an incredible amount, which will enable us to continue supporting police officers in their mental health and wellbeing across the United Kingdom

From all of us here at TBLUK, thank you so much, Bryony, for your kindness and generosity, and that of your family, in nominating and supporting our charity in memory of your wonderful dad. On Thursday the 21st of August in the early hours of the morning, our best Daddy and Trev died very suddenly and unexpectedly at home. He leaves behind a lovely wife, three beautiful children and two lovely son-in laws. He was a lover of his family, a good cheese, coffee and cake, his beloved motorbike and telling a good story or a bad joke.

For 18 years he was an absolutely amazing, devoted and passionate police officer covering a huge patch in South East Cornwall. He tutored many student officers in his later years to be confident, competent young officers and he leaves behind a legacy of humour, hardworking and friendship. He is also the legendary Tragocop in Trago Mills, which he wouldn’t let us forget, being somewhat of a local celebrity! He retired only 2 years ago and continued to tell all the hilarious and sometimes harrowing stories every day. He was so proud to be able to help people every day. We are forever proud to call him Trev/Dad.

He suffered a fair few physical scrapes in his time policing, but also suffered massively with the mental load of his work and some of the things he had seen and dealt with. This is why we know he would appreciate his friends and family donating to Thin Blue Line UK to help support his fellow officers and their families.

This is a testament to what an amazing man Dad is, and we are so grateful for all the thoughtful family members, friends and colleagues who have given to this brilliant charity supporting officers in need. Although not a formal organisation or charity, Bournemouth International and Neurodiverse Friends is a passionate group of volunteers who dedicate their time to supporting those who feel isolated or simply need someone to talk to. Their outreach, especially within the academic community, is driven entirely by faith and conviction, with no financial overheads, just a commitment to making a difference.

Their decision to support us stems from a meaningful encounter in November 2022, when they met a police officer at a Community Contact Point in Bournemouth Town Centre. During that conversation, the officer shared his personal struggle: his daughter had recently been diagnosed with autism and was being referred to a SEN school. The uncertainty had taken a toll on his family’s mental health.

Gala Ball was held at Titanic Belfast on Saturday 29th November 2025 and following the event we are pleased to announce that the charity has raised an impressive £23,000 to support the mental health and wellbeing of police officers across the UK! To say we are moved as a charity is an understatement! This will now allow us to continue our work and enable us to provide help to officers when it is needed most. The event brought together 400 guests from Northern Ireland, England, Scotland, Wales, Denmark, the United States, and beyond, showcasing the strength and unity of the global policing family.

The evening was a celebration of resilience and community, featuring a keynote address from Hannah Bailey of Blue Light Wellbeing, whose powerful words captivated the audience. Speaking after Hannah’s speech, one guest, Adam from England, said “The keynote speech really hit home. Mental health support for officers is something we all need to champion”.

I’ve come away with renewed balance and resilience. Your charity, working with the incredible Hannah Bailey, has created something truly special. As a serving officer, thank you for supporting my mental health and the wellbeing of my colleagues and me”.

Guests were treated to a stunning cake by Haley from The Busy Whisk Bakery and professional photography by Phil McIntosh Photography & Videography. During the evening, Paul Clarke led a poignant moment of silence to honour officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty—both recently and in the past—reminding attendees of the sacrifices made by those who serve. The funds raised will help the charity continue its mission to provide essential support for officers facing mental health challenges. Michael, an officer from Northern Ireland, said “The atmosphere was electric, but the moment of silence reminded us why we were there. It was deeply moving”.

An exciting new partnership which will enable Thin Blue Line UK to send more officers on much needed retreats to support their wellbeing and positive mental health.

Thin Blue Line UK is proud to announce a heartfelt new partnership with Bluelight Consultancy, led by its founder and director, Brendan O’Brien. In a generous and deeply compassionate move, Brendan has nominated Thin Blue Line UK as Bluelight Consultancy’s chosen charity.

Following thoughtful conversations between Brendan and the Trustees of Thin Blue Line UK, this partnership will now enable five additional serving or former police officers to attend the transformative Bluelight Retreat every year, led by the inspirational Hannah Bailey. A former police officer herself, Hannah is now a highly qualified therapist whose tireless dedication to the wellbeing of those who serve the thin blue line to protect their communities is nothing short of extraordinary. She is joined by Andy Labrum, a retired dog sergeant and expert in guiding officers through career transition and change management. Together, they deliver a retreat experience that is both healing and empowering.

The impact of these retreats is profound, and here at Thin Blue Line UK, we firmly believe in the benefits they offer to the officers who attend. This is clearly reflected in the words of an officer who recently took part in a retreat:

“This weekend has changed me; I can feel it already... I would like to thank the Thin Blue Line UK for providing me with this opportunity. It really did feel like a thank you for your service.”

“Some of these people have become my best friends. The information, the activities, the shared stories – it was life-changing.”

These testimonies capture the essence of what Thin Blue Line UK and Bluelight Consultancy are striving for: real, lasting support for officers who give so much of themselves in the line of duty.

At Thin Blue Line UK, we are continually humbled by the generosity of those who support our mission. This partnership with Bluelight Consultancy not only represents a financial commitment but a genuine recognition of the service and sacrifice of our police officers.

We extend our deepest thanks to Brendan and the entire Bluelight Consultancy team for their belief in our cause and their unwavering compassion for the policing community.

Together, we are helping more officers find rest, reflection, and the resilience to move forward.

So this week Channel 4 ran their article detailing the investigation into the number of officers and staff we have lost by suicide over the last 3 years in the UK police service.

Yes you saw that right 100 officers and staff died by suicide in that short period.

And this is based on inaccurate unrecorded figures as most forces simply do not record them.

By a large majority these are mostly male. This week it’s a 23 year old. Last year it was a retired CC. Women are of course not immune from the crisis.

Let me tell you something about police officers.

They are some of the bravest, compassionate, resilient, competent, professional people I have ever known and I am honoured to have worked with them.

They join the police service to do good; to look after the most vulnerable in our society; “to catch the bad guys and look after the good ones”; to keep you safe whilst you go about your daily business.

I still fervently support the British Police Service as amongst the best in the world despite all the recent challenges. I still actively coach and mentor those wishing to join as a new recruit or those wishing to get promoted.

But what has gone so wrong? Why do so many feel that suicide is the only way out? I know that Trojan Wellbeing instigated the programme and link it to investigations against officers, and this is a part, but I genuinely believe there is so much more.

This is not an exhaustive list at all but challenges for police officers include:

To the public this looks like a reduced public service. Less officers, less police resources, less capability, officers leaving in droves, crimes not being attended, calls not being answered. And the cost! This is not my priority but it is the priority of senior leaders and the government. No one has ever been able to inform the true cost of recruiting an officer and taking them through their 2/3 year probation. I estimate it's around £250,000. And yet officers are leaving in their first 5 years. As many as 30% in some forces

Officers pay into a range of police charities to support themselves. The list of those charities is growing as people recognise the need to support our officers where their employers – the government – has failed. I’m a trustee of just one http://www.thinbluelineuk.org.uk but there are so many more. These charities are generally set up by other officers who see the need for such help and support.

TBLUK have been funding an NHS approved app with 24 hr support for a few years now and the data from that demonstrates lives have been saved as a a direct result. This is itself is a demonstration of the fact officers still not only don’t have access to the support they need quickly enough within forces, but that they still don’t trust the confidentiality and capability of that support. – I really do hope Oscar Kilo can change that and it can’t have a better leader thats for sure in Andy Rhodes.

But when an officer attends work the morning after attempting to take their own life and the response from their Inspector is “That’s silly, don’t do that again” ; or when an officer who has worked in the highest pressure role they were previously lauded for, is told by an OHU caseworker it will be months before they upload the decision for a medical health retirement for PTSD, we have got something seriously wrong.

If I was still working as a Supt in policing and one company had a death of an employee every 10 days…… it would without doubt be classed as a Critical Incident. HSE, the police, the coroner would all be involved, and yet in policing, we say some gentle words about the person, support the family in the background and then move on.

I don’t know about you but I am losing confidence in the government, PCCs and some CCs to stem this flow of suicides (and early resignations). I do not believe that most Chief Constables don’t care. I have worked alongside many of them and know they feel the loss of officers as much as anyone and often feel guilt even when there is nothing they could have done to prevent it. They feel the pain of austerity. They know we are not looking after the public or the people working within the police as well as we should be. I genuinely believe that we are recruiting some of the best people to those top jobs. But if ever was a time to step up and be counted, to act instead of say nice words – this is it!

So now I appeal to the NPCC, the APCC, the current government, the latest in a long line of Home Secretaries and Police Ministers – ACT NOW. Because people are dying on your watch. Families are being left without parents, partners, children. Colleagues are being left to pick up the pieces. The public are suffering from all that is happening.

In December 2024, the trustees of Thin Blue Line UK were ecstatic to learn that its founder, Dr. Gary Craig had been awarded an MBE for his Public and Charitable Services in the 2025 New Years Honours by his Majesty King Charles III.

Gary established the charity in 2012 and since then has worked tirelessly to lead Thin Blue Line UK to the success it is today, it is only right that he was recognised for this hard work and dedication to his role.

Gary travelled down to London with his family to receive his MBE on Friday 27th June 2025 from HRH the Princess of Wales at Buckingham Palace.

I am so delighted to finally be able to talk about this, to say that this came as an absolute shock is an understatement. I cannot express in words how humbled I am that this has happened, and I want to take this opportunity to say a few thanks.

The charity would simply not exist without the dedication and passion of all the trustees, Andrea, Beverley, Lisa, Jack and Tony thank you for your belief and for what you bring to the team. To my wife Linda and family who must put up with the madness that comes with being married to me - I am forever grateful. To my colleagues and Senior Management Team within PSNI thank you for your support and for belief in what we are trying to do.

The charity means so much to me and I truly hope that this honour helps open doors, enables conversations to take place and ultimately raises the profile of the Thin Blue Line UK, which I hope with all my heart means that we can help more officers. Policing is an incredibly difficult role and there is so much pressure on officers who simply want to do their best and help others. They see things that will stay with them forever and this can have a massive impact on their personal happiness and mental health. We want to give officers the confidence to reach out, ask for help and get it when they need it. We hope that as we move through 2025, we will be able to offer more to those who need it and continue to look out for those who are brave enough to wear the uniform

Following the tragic scenes which took place in Liverpool City Centre following the Liverpool Football Club Victory Parade on Sunday 26th May 2025, as a charity we were extremely aware of the impact that this was likely to have had on the attending officers mental health and wellbeing; working long hours to support the police response, whilst also dealing with the immediate medical and evidential requirements at scene. We were also conscious of the fact that many of these officers were likely some of the same officers that responded to the incident in Southport the year prior in Summer 2024.

As trustees for some time, we have thought about doing something small in situations such as this to show Police Officers who work hard to protect our communities and support the thin blue line that we are there, we are thinking of them, and that we care. With the packs being there to complement the wellbeing response and not being there to replace the strong plans and force mechanisms which were already in place.

One of our trustees came up with the idea of sending each officer who attended the scene a Care Package for this reason, and we therefore sought to progress this seeking approval from Merseyside Police, working closely with their forces psychological lead and Merseyside Police Federation, who all kindly approved and thanked the charity for their kind thoughts and generosity.

The Charity then got hard to work and packed several hundred Care Packages. Each pack contained a letter letting know each officer that we were thinking of them and a free offer of access to our THRIVE wellbeing support app; complemented with a small pack of relaxation Epsom salts, hand cream, charity pen, chocolate bar, hot chocolate and pocket hug. All delivered in a letterbox sized parcel to make it easily deliverable.

Each pack was hand delivered to stations across Merseyside, and we were touched as we started to receive social media posts and emails of thanks from the officers affected who acknowledged how our Care Packages whilst being a small show of appreciation had made such a big difference.

Here at Thin Blue Line UK were know that Police Officers often run towards the very thing that others instinctively run away from. We know how important it is that officers take time to look after themselves. Policing can take its toll on a person’s mental health.

As a charity we know this first-hand and want to ensure that the assistance we offer remains free, accessible and effective, whilst complementing what is already offered by the various forces; to help support officers, so they can continue to keep the public safe and offer the high level of service that our communities deserve.

We are now thinking of how moving forwards our Care Packages can be best utilised to support officers after attending similar out of the ordinary incidents and considering how they could be made accessible to officers and colleagues to order too. Keep checking in to our website and socials as this develops!

Thin Blue Line UK is run by police officers, for police officers. We know how difficult it is to ask for help, as we understand the pressures experienced by police officers and we are here to help them. We are passionate about raising awareness and making it as easy as possible for officers to get the help they need, when they need it. We are delighted to have the support of Slater & Gordon who work extensively with police officers across the United Kingdom. The partnership will assist officers by getting access to a legal expert for that initial advice when things go wrong. Together, we will help them reduce any feelings of stress and anxiety, helping them overcome these difficult times

Our team has represented police officers for many years and have gained an invaluable insight into the profound challenges officers often face whilst protecting the public. Not only do police officers put their own lives in danger for others, but their commitment can also cause a serious impact to their own mental wellbeing. From post-traumatic stress disorder, depression and grief – these emotions can feed into their personal and professional lives, with some, sadly, having to leave their role as a result. We have reached many successful settlements for officers, and we are proud of our commitment to helping them find a new start and overcome these difficult times. Our work with Thin Blue Line UK is a truly important partnership where we can support even more officers who are experiencing poor mental health or workplace injury

We were extremely excited to bring the ball to Wales for the first time and prior to the event we worked closely with officers from across several forces, including South Wales, Gwent and Dyfed Powys.

It was an evening filled with lots of laughter, love and fun, with over 200 guests attending not only from the UK but from across Europe. Chief Officers from South Wales Police with the Chief Constable being one of the nights keynote speakers. The event was sponsored by GEO AMEY and GCM Security, and numerous businesses from across Wales supported us by donating raffle and auction prizes too which we were incredibly grateful for.

It was our fifth annual ball and together with our guests we raised over £12,000 on the evening to help us to continue supporting officers' mental health and wellbeing. We also developed closer links with the Thin Blue Line Denmark and hosted two of their officers at the event.
