Payroll Giving Q&A

We hope to answer any questions you may have below, but if we haven't please contact us so we can help.

  • How do I sign up for Payroll Giving?

Anyone who is paid by an employer, pays PAYE (tax) deducted from their pay and has an employer who is part of the Just Giving scheme  is eligible to sign up to donate to Thin Blue Line UK.

Contact your HR department to enquire. If your employer is signed up, they will advise you on what you need to do. You will need our charities registration number which is 1184042. Thin Blue Line UK is a registered UK charity; our full details are viewable on the Charity Commissions website.

If your employer isn't signed up direct your employer to the governments Payroll Giving website for full information. They will need to contact a Payroll Giving Agency to set up a scheme.

  • How much can I donate?

Yes, you can give to more than one charity and any UK based charity. The minimum monthly amount is £5.00. The maximum amount is your gross pay/pension, minus your National Insurance contribution.

  • Will we contact you?

We would love to contact you to say thank you, but we won't contact you without your consent.

Many Donation Choice Forms you will need to fill in with your employer allow you to specify contact preferences for each of the charities you donate to. Giving you control over whether we may get in touch with you to say a big thank you.

  • Will we receive all your donation?

Quite often Thin Blue Line UK will receive all your donation as most employers pay the administrative costs on behalf of their employees which Payroll Giving Agencies can charge.

In cases where this doesn't occur and agencies do charge an administrative fee this is deducted  from the overall donation.

Speak to your employers HR department to see whether you or they must pay any administrative fees.

  • When do we receive your Payroll Giving donation?

All Payroll Giving charitable donations nationally are processed strictly in accordance with HMRC regulations.

Donations are processed during the month after the funds have been deducted from salaries. So, for example, July's donations are processed during August and would reach Thin Blue Line UK in the first few days of September.

  • What happens if I leave my current job?

Payroll Giving charitable donations stop when you leave your current job. They are not automatically transferrable between employers.

However, if you move to a new employer, and want to continue with your Payroll Giving to Thin Blue Line UK just contact your new employers HR department.

  • How do I amend how much I donate?

You can increase or decrease your Payroll Giving charitable donation to Thin Blue Line UK by contacting your employers HR department and filling in update paperwork.

  • How do I cancel my Payroll Giving donations?

You can cancel your Payroll Giving charitable donations by contacting your employers HR department so they can update their payroll team.
