A Call For Change From The Frontline

Thin Blue Line UK Partners with Former Police Officer Liam to Highlight Critical Need for Welfare Reform To Enable Better Mental Health Support To Be Made Available
Thin Blue Line UK
has recently announced the release of a powerful and deeply personal poem written by Liam, a former police officer who previously served in Devon and Cornwall Police, following nearly 14 years of military service in the British Army. After stepping away from policing and finding renewed happiness elsewhere, Liam has chosen to use his voice and lived experience to shed light on the urgent welfare challenges faced by those still serving on the frontline.
The poem, which took Liam a year to complete, reflects the emotional and physical toll experienced by officers across the country. Drawing on quiet reflection, first-hand observation, and the shared struggles of colleagues, Liam’s work gives a candid account of the pressures faced by modern policing, from chronic understaffing and excessive workloads to the slow erosion of vital welfare and organisational support.
Despite its honesty, the poem does not dwell in bitterness. Instead, it is a heartfelt call for reform and a reminder of the profession’s enduring value. Liam emphasises that policing remains “one of the best jobs in the world,” even as the system often leaves its officers feeling unsupported, exhausted, or unheard. His message captures both the pride of service and the emotional weight carried by those who dedicate their lives to protecting others.
Over recent months, Thin Blue Line UK
has been working closely with Liam to help bring his message to a wider audience. The charity has supported his journey of reflection, encouraged the poem’s release, and offered a platform for officers who may resonate with his words. In recognition of that partnership, Liam has granted Thin Blue Line UK
the honour of sharing his poem publicly.
“We are incredibly grateful to Liam for trusting us with this piece of his story,” a spokesperson for the charity said. “His poem reflects the experiences of many officers, those still serving, those who left quietly, and those who felt they had no choice but to walk away. His honesty and courage will undoubtedly help others feel understood and less alone.”
The charity is encouraging officers and supporters alike to listen to Liam’s poem, reflect on its message, and consider how they can contribute to improved welfare across the policing community.
For those serving officers seeking help, Thin Blue Line UK
