Police Week 2026

A Cherished Partnership which makes a difference and changes lives.

Thin Blue Line UK is proud to continue our longstanding partnership with Thin Blue Line Denmark, supporting UK police officers to attend Police Week, an annual event dedicated to camaraderie, resilience, wellbeing and recovery.

Thanks to the incredible support of our donors and supporters, we were once again able to fund a number of UK officers to travel to Denmark and take part in this life-changing experience.

For many years, this partnership has provided serving, retired and medically retired officers with an opportunity to connect with others who truly understand the challenges associated with injury, trauma, PTSD and life after policing. It remains one of the most meaningful programmes supported by Thin Blue Line UK and one that continues to transform lives year after year.

What is Police Week?

Organised by Thin Blue Line Denmark, Police Week brings together officers who have experienced physical injuries, psychological trauma, PTSD and other life-changing events throughout their policing careers.

This year's Police Week brought together almost 40 Danish officers alongside colleagues from the United Kingdom, whose travel had been funded by Thin Blue Line UK and made possible through the charities' incredible partnership with Thin Blue Line Denmark. All had faced significant physical or psychological challenges during their policing careers.

Through a programme of activities, including a football match, visits to the Danish Parliament and the British Embassy, sailing in central Copenhagen, treetop climbing, speedboat experiences, breath work, ice baths and sauna sessions, as well as wellness activities and cultural experiences, participants were given the opportunity to connect with others who truly understood their journey.

More importantly, Police Week creates an environment where officers live alongside others who have walked similar paths, fostering understanding, acceptance and support in a way that is difficult to replicate elsewhere.

One Story. A Shared Lifeline.

Among the officers supported by Thin Blue Line UK this year was Darren Ryan, a former police officer who was medically retired with Complex PTSD. Darren applied to attend Police Week after facing some of the darkest periods of his life following retirement from policing.

Reflecting on his experience, Darren said "I hit crisis and nearly lost everything dear to me, including my own life.

When I was medically retired, all I heard was silence. The noises inside my mind got louder. Life felt heavier every day. Keeping on living became difficult. I wasn't living, I was surviving".

Like many officers whose careers end unexpectedly through injury or ill health, Darren struggled with the loss of identity and purpose that came with leaving policing... "There was no retirement party. One day I was part of the family. The next, I was questioning who I was, where I belonged and what my life meant without the career that had defined so much of me."

Three years later, Darren still felt trapped in that mindset, then came Denmark... finding Connection Through Shared Experience. During Police Week, Darren joined 47 officers, all carrying different experiences, but united by a shared understanding, "We became friends. We became a support system. And we didn't always need to talk. Even in the silence, we heard one another. No words were needed. We got it".

Throughout the week, friendships developed, confidence grew and barriers began to fall. For many attendees, this is the first time they have spent extended periods alongside people who truly understand the realities of trauma, injury and life after policing. For Darren, it became something far greater than a week away. "I went to Denmark thinking I was joining a week with people who understood. I came home knowing I had found something much more powerful. Connection. Belonging. Friendship. A shared lifeline".

Why Police Week Matters

At Thin Blue Line UK, we see first-hand the challenges that many officers face following injury, trauma, PTSD, illness, or medical retirement. For many, the end of a policing career can bring feelings of isolation, uncertainty, and a loss of identity.

Police Week provides something that is often difficult to find elsewhere: genuine understanding from people who have lived through similar experiences. By bringing officers together in a safe and supportive environment, it creates opportunities for healing, connection, and personal growth.

Through funding travel and managing the application process, Thin Blue Line UK helps remove barriers that might otherwise prevent officers from attending. Year after year, we hear stories of renewed confidence, lasting friendships, improved wellbeing and, most importantly, hope being restored.

Police Week is far more than attending an event. It is an investment in recovery, resilience, and wellbeing. It reminds officers that they remain part of the wider policing family and that they do not need to face their challenges alone.

A Partnership Built on Friendship

The relationship between Thin Blue Line UK and Thin Blue Line Denmark is one we value enormously and remains one of the charity's most cherished partnerships. Built on friendship, trust, and a shared commitment to supporting police officers, this enduring collaboration has enabled countless UK officers to benefit from the life-changing experience that Police Week provides.

Over the years, we have witnessed first-hand the positive impact the programme has on those who attend. Officers return home with renewed confidence, meaningful friendships, and support networks that continue long after the week itself has ended.

The dedication, compassion, and generosity shown by our friends at Thin Blue Line Denmark continues to make a remarkable difference to the lives of serving, retired, and medically retired UK police officers. Together, we share a common goal: ensuring that no officer feels alone in their recovery journey and that those who have spent their careers supporting others receive the support they deserve in return.

Our Commitment...

Stories like Darren's remind us exactly why Thin Blue Line UK exists.

Behind every Police Week application is a police officer facing challenges that many people will never see. Behind every funded place is an opportunity for someone to rebuild confidence, rediscover purpose and reconnect with others who understand. Every donation, fundraiser and show of support helps us continue providing these opportunities and ensuring that officers across the UK have access to the support they deserve.

Together with our friends at Thin Blue Line Denmark, we remain committed to helping officers heal, recover and rediscover hope. Thank you for standing with us and supporting Thin Blue Line UK. Every single Police Officer serving their communities right across the United Kingdom means a lot to the charity and remember... Together, we can make a real difference.
