Thin Blue Line UK is proud to mark Emergency Services Day (999 Day) 2026, joining organisations and communities across the country in recognising the extraordinary dedication, professionalism and sacrifice of those who serve within the emergency services.

Emergency Services Day is a national day of recognition that honours the heroic men and women who work and volunteer across the NHS and emergency services. The day also promotes the responsible use of emergency services, raises awareness of essential lifesaving skills, highlights career and volunteering opportunities, and showcases the invaluable work of charities that support the emergency services community.

The annual event celebrates everyone who serves, or has served, within policing, fire and rescue, ambulance services, coastguard, search and rescue, and the many volunteer organisations that play a vital role in keeping our communities safe. From Special Constables and Retained Firefighters to NHS Community Responders, St John Ambulance volunteers, RNLI crews and Search and Rescue teams, volunteers remain a fundamental part of the emergency services family.

At Thin Blue Line UK, we recognise that behind every uniform is a person who routinely faces challenges and pressures in the service of others. As a charity dedicated to supporting the wellbeing of those who serve, Emergency Services Day provides an important opportunity to reflect on the impact that frontline roles can have on mental health, resilience and overall wellbeing.

Emergency Services Day was founded by Tom Scholes-Fogg, who recognised the need for a dedicated national day to celebrate Britain's 999 heroes. Since its creation, the initiative has received support from the Prime Minister and other senior national leaders, as well as members of the Royal Family, helping to shine a spotlight on the exceptional work undertaken by emergency service personnel across the UK.

As the nation pauses to acknowledge the contribution of its emergency services, Thin Blue Line UK encourages everyone to take a moment to thank those who dedicate their lives to protecting others and to learn more about the many ways individuals can support emergency services charities, volunteer organisations and community initiatives.
